This segment of Newton street has a single shoulder on the north side, which the students have described as the south side. As shown here, the students propose to remove the shoulder and replace it with a multi-use path. I propose instead to move the centerline so there is a narrower shoulder on each side. If a path also could be constructed, fine, but the roadway needs to remain as wide as it is to allow overtaking when there is a breakdown or parked delivery vehicle, residents turning left into a driveway etc., and to accommodate bicyclists.
